At Plymouth Triathlon Club, we want everyone to feel safe, welcome, respected and able to enjoy being part of the club.
The Welfare Team is currently made up of Sorrel Yates and Garth McColville. We are here to provide a point of contact for members who have a concern, experience an issue, or simply want to talk something through.
You don't need to be certain that something is a formal welfare or safeguarding issue before speaking to us. If something doesn't feel right, we'd rather you raise it and allow us to help.
What do we do?
Our role is to:
• Listen to concerns and provide support.
• Take welfare, safeguarding and member concerns seriously.
• Consider and investigate concerns appropriately and proportionately.
• Work with British Triathlon or other relevant organisations where necessary.
• Help ensure the club provides a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
• Handle information sensitively and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
Raising a concern
If you have a concern, please speak to either of us. Sorrell is at most Friday swims, while Garth attends a range of sessions. If you don't know us, speak to the Coach and they can direct you to us.
You can also contact us directly or use the Club Anonymous Welfare Concern / Incident Form if you prefer to remain anonymous. You can also report via British Triathlons ‘Report a Concern Form’. Links to both are below.
You don't need to decide whether something is serious enough to report. We will listen, take all concerns seriously and investigate where appropriate, dealing with matters fairly and sensitively.
Confidentiality will be respected wherever possible, although information may need to be shared where necessary to protect someone's welfare or meet safeguarding requirements. Where possible, we will explain what we need to do and why.
We are looking for another Welfare Team Member
We are looking for an additional Welfare Team member to give our members greater choice in who they feel comfortable approaching and to strengthen support across the club.
We are looking for someone who is approachable, trustworthy and a good listener. No previous welfare or safeguarding experience is required — training and support will be provided.
